The Chicago Bears are coming off an impressive win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night. Unfortunately, they suffered a major casualty in the process with left guard James Daniels suffering a pectoral injury.

The Bears' worst fears have been confirmed after an MRI revealed that Daniels suffered a torn pec and will be out for the rest of the 2020 NFL season, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero:

The loss of Daniels undoubtedly deals a crushing blow to the Bears' offensive line. He had emerged as quite a steal after making 31 starts and playing in all 37 career games ever since being taken in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. His absence will leave a rather notable void in the protection for Foles.

Second-year lineman Alex Bars was the one tasked with replacing Daniels at left guard during the third quarter of the 20-19 win. It is safe to say that hd will have some big shoes to fill given how well his predecessor had played up to this point. However, his struggles to contain defensive tackle Vita Vea toward the end of the game does raise some concern.

There may understandably be some growing pains for Bars in the coming weeks as he gets accustomed to his new role up front. It will be interesting to see if the Bears opt to shore up some more depth from their practice squad or the waiver wire for any potential contingency plans.

Chicago will have some extra time to get adjusted before visiting the Carolina Panthers in Week 6.
