Chicago Bears tight end Trey Burton has returned to training camp after missing four straight practices while recovering from sports hernia surgery, according to Colleen Kane of The Chicago Tribune.

Burton is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played all 16 games and hauled in 54 receptions for 569 yards and six touchdowns, all career highs.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, appearing in 15 contests but failing to log a statistic.

The following year, Burton participated in all 16 games and logged three catches for 54 yards before finally making a legitimate mark in the offense in 2016, when he caught 37 passes for 327 yards and a score.

Burton then posted relatively similar numbers in 2017, snaring 23 balls for 248 yards and five touchdowns and was part of Eagles club that went on to win the Super Bowl.

That ensuing offseason, Burton signed a four-year, $32 million deal with the Bears.

Meanwhile, Chicago won 12 games and captured the NFC North division title this past season, marking its first playoff appearance since the 2010-11 campaign. The Bears then proceeded to suffer a heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round, falling by a score of 16-15 after Cody Parkey's game-winning field goal attempt was blocked as time expired.

But, thanks to a stout defense and an improving young offense, the Bears are considered Super Bowl contenders in the NFC and are aiming to make back-to-back playoff trips for the first time since 2006-07, which also happened to be the last time Chicago went to the Super Bowl.
