The Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers kick off the NFL season on Thursday night and the home squad could be shorthanded with tight end Trey Burton's status uncertain.

Burton had a sports hernia that kept him out of OTAs during the spring and he sat out the entire preseason schedule. That didn't seem like too big of a deal because coach Matt Nagy was resting a lot of the starters so the expectation was he would still be good to go week one.

The Bears had their first practice on Sunday with the 53 man roster, and Burton was on the sideline working on individual drills according to Brad Briggs of the Chicago Tribune.

This might not be a situation where he is still hurt or recovering, but rather the team not feeling he is in game shape to suit up yet.

If it has to do with the conditioning there are only a couple of days before the game, and it's not something that can probably be turned around this quickly.

If he does end up sitting out this week hopefully the extra couple of days before week two would be enough to get him up to speed and be ready when the Bears play the Denver Broncos.

If Trey Burton can't go it will be up to Adam Shaheen, Ben Braunecker and Bradley Sowell to step up and fill the role. Burton was one of the Mitchell Trubisky's favorite targets last year, so him missing the game would be a huge loss.
