The Chicago Bears were dealt a crucial blow with running back David Montgomery forced to exit with a neck injury. Fortunately, the offense has still managed to find a way to put points on the board. The Bears capped an 11-play 80-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown from quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to wide receiver Darnell Mooney to extend their lead over the New York Giants to 17 just before the half, via NFL Twitter:

Mooney was taken by Chicago in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft as part of their efforts to beef up the receiving corps. He hauled in just three receptions for 38 yards in the 2020 NFL season opener versus the Detroit Lions. His activity this game indicates he could be looking to take on an elevated role by earning Trubisky's trust.

Although wide receiver Allen Robinson has long established himself as the clear-cut No. 1 option in the passing game, Mooney's efforts could help him potentially earn a chance to take on a complementary role.
