Anthony Munoz, Ja'Marr Chase, and Penei Sewell all know that the Cincinnati Bengals currently hold the fifth pick in the upcoming NFL draft, and that there is much buzz about who they should be looking to draft.
Last year, the Bengals took LSU star quarterback Joe Burrow. Burrow had a good start to his rookie campaign before going down with a brutal leg injury. Burrow's success give the Bengals a franchise cornerstone and it now becomes about building the roster out around him.
The two players most brought up in the conversation for the Bengals are Burrow's former teammate, LSU wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, or the tackle from Oregon, Penei Sewell. One former Bengal, Anthony Munoz, made his opinion clear.
Munoz, the former NFL tackle who became a Hall of Famer with the Bengals, makes it clear Sewell would be the most helpful for Burrow's future success. The big tackle would likely fill on the left side of the line to protect Burrow's blindside. This could go a long way to making Burrow feel safer in the pocket.
Ja'Marr Chase and Joe Burrow proved to have incredible chemistry at LSU, leading the Tigers to the national championship. Burrow has not yet had an elite wide receiver option with the Bengals and Chase could definitely be that in the NFL.
Whichever path the Bengals decide to go down, it will certainly be with the hope of helping to make Burrow's life a little easier in the pocket.
Burrow is the franchise in Cincinnati. Maximizing him and his future career is the way to go for the Bengals, who simply have to find the right path in order to do that. Helping Burrow with a big-time wide receiver offers a line of logic which is hard to knock… but giving Burrow a strong offensive tackle could be the chess move which pays greater dividends for Cincinnati in the long run. This is not an easy decision to make for a franchise which needs to hit a home run.
