The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to a four-year, $43 million contract extension with wide receiver Tyler Boyd, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. This will keep Boyd under contract through 2023.

Boyd is coming off of a breakout 2018 campaign in which he played 14 games and hauled in 76 receptions for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns, representing the Bengals' No. 1 receiver with A.J. Green sidelined much of the year with a toe injury.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh, was originally selected by Cincinnati in the second round (55th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He went on to appear in all 16 contests during his rookie year, catching 54 passes for 603 yards and a score. Then, the following year, Boyd was limited to just 10 games due to a knee injury, snaring just 22 balls for 225 yards while reaching the end zone a couple of times.

Boyd also had a very strong NCAA career at Pittsburgh, closing out his collegiate tenure by registering 91 catches for 926 yards and six touchdowns during his junior year.

He arrived at Pittsburgh in 2013 and had a terrific freshman campaign, totaling 85 receptions for 1,174 yards and seven scores. The Clairton, Pa. native then followed that up by recording 78 catches for 1,261 yards while finding the end zone eight times in his sophomore season.

Meanwhile, the Bengals won just six games this past year and have missed the playoffs three years in a row. Cincinnati's postseason absence comes on the heels of the Bengals making five straight playoff appearances between 2011 and 2015. However, Cincinnati has not actually won a playoff game since the 1990-91 campaign.
