The Cincinnati Bengals continue to lock up their own players. After re-signing Bobby Hart and C.J. Uzomah, the Bengals are bringing back Preston Brown, a source told Dianna Russini of ESPN.com.

The Bengals fired longtime coach Marvin Lewis after last season, but the new coaching staff is apparently just as high on Brown. The veteran middle linebacker will be back with the Bengals next season, although terms haven't been disclosed. 2018 was Brown's first year with the Bengals after he spent the first four years of his career in Buffalo.

The Bengals gave him a one-year, $4 million deal last year, and it's fair to assume he got something similar. Brown landed on injured reserve with a knee injury after just seven games, but Cincy saw enough in those seven games to bring him back. He received average marks from Pro Football Focus in his limited action, grading out as their 75th-best linebacker overall.

In seven games he had 42 tackles, four passes defended, and two interceptions. In his last year in Buffalo in 2017, he led the league with 144 tackles.

With new coach Zac Taylor at the helm, the Bengals are entering a full-blown rebuild. They aren't going to be winning anything anytime soon, and need to plan for the future. Brown is still only 26, and if he can continue to develop he can be a solid building block for the coming years.
