Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase has so far been at the top of his game this season, which quarterback Joe Burrow sees is just the beginning for him in his career.

Chase currently leads all rookie wideouts in receiving yards (754) and receiving touchdowns (six). More so, his speed in the open field has been a game-changer for the Bengals offense thanks to his league-leading 21.5 receiving yards per reception average.

At this point in the campaign, Chase continues to bolster his already stout 2021 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award resume.

During a press conference ahead of the Bengals' Week 8 road matchup against the New York Jets, Burrow was asked if he is surprised that opposing defenses have not done more to contain Chase. In response, Burrow noted that he hopes they continue to take this conservative approach against the rookie wideout.

“I hope they keep doing that,” Burrow said. “I hope they do. He's just gonna keep making plays if they do. That's what he does.

“You’ve gotta be ready for everything the way he's playing. It hasn’t changed at all so far. Everyone just keeps playing him 1-on-1. We’ll be ready for some double teams, some cloud (coverage), but when he gets his opportunities, he will make the plays. We gotta be ready for everything, but until then, we’ll keep doing what we’re doing.”

Burrow surely is far from surprised with Chase's prowess as a wide receiver this season, as the two notably had their way on a week-by-week basis against SEC defenses during their run together at LSU.

Burrow has noticed one area of Chase’s play that makes him such a difficult wideout to up against in coverage.

“He has this way of—so, when DBs play bail, they like to keep eyes on the quarterback, and he has this uncanny ability to get in their blind spot and then DBs will try to squeeze off the sideline,” Burrow said. “That's what they're taught to do, and he's just too strong to get squeezed to the sideline and then before they know it, he is past them. He just does so many things well, that he's hard to cover and hard to defend.”

Burrow and Chase are set to go up against a Jets team in Week 8 that has only allowed a mere seven passing touchdowns through six games in the campaign.
