Two things can be true at once: Joe Mixon can want a new contract, and the Cincinnati Bengals running back can also have a migraine.

Mixon missed practice on Wednesday as he dealt with migraines, according to Pro Football Talk.

Not surprisingly, his absence fueled speculation that he's playing it safe and keeping his reps down until he gets his money.

Mixon isn’t planning to participate in practice on Thursday, either, as his migraines persist, per NFL.com. While it's certainly convenient to tie his inactive status to his contract demands, there's no evidence to prove that the star halfback isn't experiencing extremely painful headaches.

On Monday, Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor said Mixon was coping with a “minor injury.”

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Bengals are optimistic that Mixon will be back on the field sooner rather than later.

Mixon has topped 1,100 rushing yards each of the last two seasons on hapless Bengals squads. In 2019, he carried the ball 278 times for 1,137 yards and five TDs and added 35 catches for 287 yards and three scores.

With no. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow now under center, Mixon is hoping the team's offensive improvement could boost his production even more.

Mixon, 24, is on the last year of his rookie contract and is set to earn $1.2 million in base salary in 2020. The 2017 second-round pick (no. 48 overall) hopes to have a long-term deal done before the Bengals season kicks off on Sept. 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, the coronavirus pandemic may throw off contact negotiations league-wide (though not for Budda Baker).
