Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross has been open about his expectations in the 2019 NFL season. It appears he will finally be able to get started on his potential resurgence midway through the preseason.

Ross has been nursing a hamstring injury that has kept him out of training camp. According to ESPN's Ben Baby, he is slated to make his return at some point next week.

Ross is still day-to-day. Next week will be a good target for him to return, per Taylor.

Ross recently revealed that his absence from practice was a decision made by the coaches, not him. As a result, it appears that the Bengals may be taking a cautious approach with his health heading into the regular season. This would certainly make sense with wide receiver A.J. Green out, as well as his own track record with injuries.

Cincinnati has been rather patient with Ross' development after a rough start through the first two seasons of his career. Following a disastrous rookie year, the former ninth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft finished the 2018 campaign with 21 receptions for 210 yards and seven touchdowns. Unfortunately, the Bengals no longer have the luxury of holding out hope for the young speedster with Green out for the start of the regular season.

Ross has acknowledged the expectations that have been set upon him in what is shaping up to be a deciding 2019 campaign. He will have an opportunity to establish himself as the No. 2 option in the passing game alongside wide receiver Tyler Boyd. Any shortcomings this year will force the Bengals to reconsider alternative options in the near future.
