Marvin Lewis continues to be the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals despite all the crash and burns of the team under his watch over the years.

Count Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer as among those who still believe in Lewis and his ability to guide Cincy. According to Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Zimmer remains very much high of Lewis, opting to look at how the Bengals coach managed to make Cincinnati a perennial playoff team upon his takeover of the head coaching mantle in 2003.

“When he first started, they weren’t very good,” Zimmer said. “He got them to a place where they got to six playoffs games [in seven years]. I think he’s a heck of a coach. He does unbelievable things in the community. I learned a lot for him. I’m happy for him. In my opinion he should be able to stay there as long as he wants.”

Lewis is on the final year of his current coaching deal with Cincinnati, and there’s a possibility he won’t be able to reprise that role again with the 5-8 Bengals very unlikely to make it to the playoffs this season.

Lewis has collected a 123-111-3 record since coaching the Bengals 15 years ago, but is winless in seven playoff appearances thus far.

Zimmer has a special connection with Lewis, as he served as the Bengals defensive coordinator from 2008 to 2013 before accepting a deal to mentor the Vikings.

Zimmer and Lewis will reunite this Sunday, when the 10-3 Vikings host Cincinnati.
