The 2021 college football season has a few days left before kickoff, but something huge is already brewing…off the field. In what feels like something that’s straight out of a professional wrestling script, the Big Ten, ACC, and Pac-12 are expected to forge an alliance that would have a great impact on major landscapes in college football. Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic is reporting that an announcement with regards to this looming development could come as early as Tuesday.

The Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 are expected to formally announce their alliance on Tuesday, multiple people with knowledge of the situation told The Athletic. The three leagues plan to work together on multiple fronts, from College Football Playoff expansion to NCAA governance issues and annual football scheduling.

The talk about an alliance by the three Power Five conferences came to light following the SEC's absorption of the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners from the Big 12. With the SEC welcoming two huge programs into its fold, the financial might and media range of the league have just become even more extensive.

That apparently is enough to drive the Big Ten, ACC, and Pac-12 into forming a strategic partnership that would allow these conferences to have the collective muscle to mitigate the power SEC  could flex in recruitment, scheduling, playoffs, and other important matters in college football.
