The quarterback competition in the Buffalo Bills camp just got even more interesting.

It was previously reported the AJ McCarron was out of the running for the team’s starting job after hurting his collarbone during a 19-17 preseason game loss to the Cleveland Browns last week. The injury was originally stated as a hairline fracture of the collarbone, which would have forced the former Alabama Crimson Tide star to be sidelined for a prolonged time.

However, a new report from Adam Schefter of ESPN claims that McCarron did not fracture his collarbone and will be joining the Bills practice again.

This latest development resets the status of the quarterback quandary in Buffalo. Once again, the Bills are left with three players to choose from for its Week 1 starter in McCarron, second-year quarterback Nathan Peterman, and rookie Josh Allen.

AJ McCarron has been waiting for a long time to be a starter. Prior to joining the Bills by signing a two-year contract worth $10 million in March, McCarron spent his four years in the league as Andy Dalton’s understudy with the Cincinnati Bengals.

In Buffalo, McCarron gets his best chance to date in his NFL career to be the offensive focal point, though, he is facing stiff competition from Peterman and Allen.

Nevertheless, it’s great news for McCarron that he can get back on the field and prove his case.

The Bills have not determined yet whether McCarron will play in any of their last two preseason games. Buffalo has the Bengals at home this coming Sunday before closing out the preseason with a road date against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 30.
