Buffalo Bills rookie running back Devin Singletary did not practice on Wednesday due to a hamstring issue, according to Josh Alper of NBC Sports “Pro Football Talk:”

The Bills have released their first injury report of the week and it shows that Singletary did not participate in the practice at all. The rookie has provided a spark to the offense in the first two weeks by averaging 12.7 yards per carry, but another absence on Thursday would make it unlikely that the team will be able to call on him against the Bengals.

Singletary first injured the hamstring during the final minutes of Buffalo's 28-14 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday. He rushed six times for 57 yards and a score against the G-Men.

The former Florida Atlantic appeared to be the starting running back in Buffalo when the Bills decided to release LeSean McCoy. Indeed, Singletary showed some explosiveness in a Week 1 win over the Jets, rushing four times for 70 yards while also catching five passes for 28 yards.

Buffalo signed Frank Gore to be their workhorse back in the offseason, but Gore has had limited success over the course of the first two weeks, averaging less than three yards per carry.

At this stage in his career, Gore is more of a one-dimensional back. Singletary, on the other hand, has already shown glimpses of being an every-down back. Quarterback Josh Allen needs all the playmakers he can get as he continues to develop.

There is no indication that the hamstring injury is serious, but Singletary might be unlikely to suit up on Sunday against the Bengals if he misses practice again on Thursday.
