Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has plenty of respect for how Josh Allen has handled the heavy workload in his fourth season with the Buffalo Bills.

Amid the uncertainty at the running back position over the course of the season, Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has called upon Allen to lead the way on offense. Allen finished regular season play with career highs in pass attempts per game (38.0) and carries per game (7.18). The fourth-year passer sure met expectations in the regular season, as he combined for 42 total touchdowns in 17 games played.

Ahead of his second head-to-head matchup against Allen this season, Mahomes touched on the Bills quarterback's stout play as of late, where he also acknowledged that Kansas City and Buffalo may face off plenty of more times in January for years to come.

“Yeah he’s a tremendous player,” Mahomes said during a press conference on Wednesday. “I actually know him a little bit off the field as well, great dude. They put a lot on his shoulders, and he rises to the occasion. He’s able to run the ball, he can throw the ball, he has the arm strength to throw it anywhere on the football field and he makes great decisions.

“We’ll probably play them a lot of times, it’ll be great competition and it’s definitely a great challenge for us as a team to compete with them.”

While Mahomes came away with a win over the Bills in the AFC Championship game last season, Allen avenged the loss in the regular season, as he guided Buffalo to a crucial win against Kansas City in Week 5.

The two franchise quarterbacks are now set for another highly anticipated duel, as the Chiefs and Bills will face off for a spot in next week’s AFC Championship game.
