The Chicago Blackhawks have turned a lot of heads this 2022 NHL offseason with one befuddling move after another, ones that might not be sitting well with their superstar duo of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. However, according to Scott Powers of The Athletic, it doesn't appear that the pair is disgruntled enough to the point where they could be driven to waive their no-movement clauses, and in the process would open the gates for a legitimate potential for them to get traded from Chicago.

As of now, I don’t think Kane and Toews are at that point yet. I reached out to a lot of people about their state on Tuesday, and I was met mostly with silence. Pat Brisson, their agent, hasn’t made any public comments in recent days, and Davidson hasn’t spoken since the first day of the draft. My assumption is someone would have said something in recent days if Kane and Toews had asked out.

Kane and Toews both have a year remaining on their current contracts also both have a cap hit of $10.5 million in the 2022-23 NHL season. Kane is 33 while Toews is 34, and with the seeming signs of the Blackhawks pointing to a rebuild, Chicago has a reason to desire for these players to make it easier for the front office to explore trade options involving them. The Avalanche are rumored to be among those who will go after Kane if a trade becomes possible.

The Blackhawks have already traded Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach ahead of the 2022 NHL free agency and they have also virtually let Dylan Strome wander free into the market after deciding not to extend a qualifying offer to him.

But for now, it appears that Kane and Toews will not budge and just savor the remaining year of their guaranteed stay in Windy City.
