Portland Trail Blazers wing Evan Turner is no stranger to big moments. As a senior at Ohio State University, Turner hit a game-winning, half-court jumper at the buzzer to beat arch rival Michigan in the quarterfinals of the Big 10 Tournament.

However, the 30-year-old veteran has had to adjust to more of a bench role in recent years, and he started in just two games for the Trail Blazers this season. And while Turner had been making steady contributions on the glass throughout the 2019 playoffs, he had hardly been filling the cylinder.

Turner had scored just seven points in the entire playoffs heading into Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals on Sunday afternoon. In fact, he only had four points in their series with the Denver Nuggets prior to the do-or-die showdown. Nonetheless, he would eclipse that total in a single quarter against Denver.

Turner poured in 10 points in the fourth quarter, including two free throws to clinch the game for Portland and send them to the West Finals.

Not only was Turner more prolific, but he was also at his most efficient when it mattered most — especially from the charity stripe.

With Damian Lillard struggling, the Blazers needed another scorer to help C.J. McCollum carry the load. Turner may have been about the unlikeliest of heroes, but he should be hailed as just that from the Portland fan base.

The Blazers will need that kind of heroism as they prepare to face the defending champions in the West Finals. The Warriors have owned Portland in the past, losing to Golden State in back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017.
