Pau Gasol's successful tenure in the NBA brings him to a new team in the coming season, as the six-time All-Star decided to join the Portland Trail Blazers this offseason. Some players might feel nervous about joining a new team, but Gasol says he is excited to play for a franchise that has employed so many great Spanish-born players over the years.

“The Portland Trail Blazers are special franchise with incredible history,” Gasol recently told Sean Highkin of Bleacher Report. “It's very special that so many Spanish players have played for the franchise. It just adds to the [decision].”

Gasol, an 18-year veteran, brings a wealth of experience to the Trail Blazers. He says he'll be looking to teach some of the younger players on the team:

“I'll do as much as I can and as much as I'm asked by (head coach Terry Stotts) and his staff,” Gasol said. “Obviously, at this point in my career, I have a lot of experience and can help the younger guys understand what it takes.”

Gasol split the 2018-19 campaign with the San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks. The 39-year-old's season was hampered by injuries, however, which led to him making just 30 appearances (3.9 points on 44.7 percent shooting, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists).

Pau says he expects to be cleared for this season's training camp:

The Trail Blazers finished the 2018-19 season with a 53-29 overall record, which earned the team a No. 3 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs. Unfortunately, though, Portland was defeated by the Golden State Warriors in the conference finals, 4-0.
