There's no keeping a lid on Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony when he goes to grab a rebound, highlighting one particular concern for the NBA regarding how it might control audio in an empty arena. Naturally, players get heated and sometimes use profane language in the heat of the battle, though the league would prefer to keep a lid on things.

The Blazers returned to action for their first exhibition game against the Indiana Pacers on Thursday. Melo christened the contest with one of his patented “I got it, f**k outta here” yelps after grabbing a rebound in the first quarter:

Hot mics pick up Anthony using this phrase all the time. Then again, it is certainly amplified in an empty arena.

But the reality is this: the league cannot do a whole lot to control the audio. Players are going to be vocal, and even delays in broadcasts are unlikely to make much of a difference.

This might not be ideal when it comes to the number of children watching games, though adult spectators might find added entertainment in hearing more colorful language.

Portland has reason to feel more confident entering the resumption of play.

The Blazers are currently the No. 9 seed in the Western Conference, and they are 3.5 games back of the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies. However, Portland welcomed Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkic back to action on Thursday, and both should play a big role in the frontcourt. Collins has only appeared in three games this season, while Nurkic hasn't played since March 2019.
