Boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez shared his thoughts on one of the greatest rivalries in sports history–Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo.

Canelo Alvarez has been having the time of his life, having made history once again following his stunning TKO win over his super middleweight rival Caleb Plant. Aside from becoming the first Mexican undisputed champion, Alvarez is now widely recognized as boxing's pound-for-pound king.

As expected, the media is now yearning to hear Alvarez's opinion about boxing. In fact, even in other sports such as soccer.

The modern soccer world has been dominated by multi-time Ballon d'Or winners Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. But for Alvarez, it is Messi who has impressed him a lot that he is even convinced Paris Saint-Germain star could become a “great fighter” too.

“One of the best players. I like him. I think maybe he would be a great fighter,” Alvarez said of Messi via The Mirror.

This wasn't the first time Alvarez commented on Messi and Ronaldo. Just almost two months ago, the 31-year-old earned comparisons to the pair, mainly in terms of individual success in professional sports.

Surprisingly, Alvarez admitted that he was flattered to be put on same footing as Messi and Ronaldo, and it certainly “motivates” him to achieve more in his career.

“Sometimes I believe it and sometimes I think that I'm happy and grateful,” the multi-division boxing champ said of the comparisons to Messi and Ronaldo via Marca.

“I never imagined getting all this. I imagined being the best boxer, but I never thought it would be this magnitude, I feel very happy and this motivates me to continue to triumph and make history,” he added.
