The Milwaukee Brewers lost catcher Pedro Severino to an 80-game suspension after he tested positive for a banned substance. In order to replace the void left by Severino, the Brewers facilitated a trade with the San Diego Padres, moving to acquire Victor Caratini and cash for a pair of players, according to FanSided's MLB insider, Robert Murray.

The full details of the trade will see Korry Howell and Brett Sullivan head to the Padres in exchange for Caratini and an undisclosed sum of cash.

With Severino suspended, the Brewers looked set to enter the regular season with Omar Narvaez as their lead catcher. While he still figures to see significant time behind the plate, they've gone out and brought in the defensive-minded Caratini to help shoulder the load.

Caratini is familiar with the NL Central, having spent the first four years of his MLB career as a member of the Chicago Cubs. He was traded to the Padres as part of the Yu Darvish deal, but will see himself back in the NL Central with the Brewers less than two years later.

Last season with the Padres, Caratini featured in 116 games. He slashed .227/.309/.323 with 7 home runs and 39 RBI.

Howell was a 12th round pick by the Brewers in 2018. He has yet to feature in an MLB game and recorded .804 OPS across two minor league levels last season. Sullivan is 28 and also has yet to reach the Major Leagues. At Triple-A last season, Sullivan logged a .677 OPS with 9 home runs and 35 RBI across 90 games.
