WNBA star Brittney Griner is currently in Rio representing Team USA in the women’s basketball event of the Olympic Games. As expected, the team has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the early stages and Griner is feeling confident. For that reason, she is issuing a challenge to a more physical imposing figure than she’s used to.

As reported by Sam Amick of USA Today, Griner has her eyes set on Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins, who she says she would love play against.

“I would love to just go out there and play against (Cousins),” said Griner. “We talk a lot of crap to each other. I love talking to him. He’s really funny. I would love to just go out there and play against him. I’ve never really been around him before until now, but he’s like that big brother, just to talk smack to and who is always competitive. He’s awesome.”

Cousins, who is also in Rio as part of the men’s team, is ready for the challenge.

“Whenever you’re ready to get it on camera and see her get embarrassed, I’m ready for it,” Cousins said.

The physical Kings center believes that Griner and himself share some of the same qualities as competitors:

“It’s almost like we’re the same person. As soon as I walk in the door, she’s at me. She says I’m a bum. She says she’ll kick my butt. It’s all in fun. She’s an incredible competitor. She’s an incredible player. It’s fun to be around the ladies and get to know them.”

Whilst he respects her game, Cousins is quick to write off Griner’s chances if the two ever met on the court.

“She’s got some footwork, but I’m top dog,” he said. “I told her she’s the third-best post player here behind me and DJ (DeAndre Jordan). She’s a little mad about that.”
