The Broncos have been tagged as the early favorites to land Cousins especially after he stated that he would “love” for the team to pursue him in free agency. The front office has assembled a team that could be ready to win now with one of the best defenses in the league in place. However, it may require the team make a move to free up more salary cap space to sign him as they are projected to have $26.8 million.

There has been some chatter that the Broncos would have to part ways with either wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders or Demaryius Thomas to free up more salary cap space. All-Pro cornerback Aqib Talib could also be a candidate to be moved as evidence of being a part of the trade offer in exchange for Alex Smith before he was moved to the Washington Redskins.

There could be a wrench thrown into Cousins' free agent plans as the Redskins are believed to be considering using the franchise tag on him in order to trade for additional assets. If he is able to hit the free agent market, it is likely he will garner the lucrative long-term contract that a slew of teams such as the Broncos, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, and possibly the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings.

He has recorded more than 4,000 passing yards with at least 25 touchdowns and a passer rating above 90 in each campaign over the last three years. In the 2017 campaign, he threw for 4,093 yards on a 64.3 percent completion percentage with 27 touchdown passes to 13 interceptions and 93.9 passer rating.
