The Denver Broncos suffered a scare after quarterback Drew Lock sustained an injury to his throwing hand against the San Francisco 49ers in their second preseason game. Fortunately, it does not appear to be too serious.

The injury occurred when Lock was sacked during the second quarter and it sidelined him for the rest of the game. According to Jon Heath of the Broncos Wire, he is optimistic that the injury is not severe:

“I got out of the pocket and just ended landing on that thumb,” Lock said after the game. “There are some videos out there, obviously I am sure. It’s just a little sprain. It should be all right.”

Lock added that he will likely proceed with a course for treatment at some point this week.

“They’ll check it out again tomorrow and I’ll get the further diagnosis tomorrow morning,” Lock said.

This is certainly an encouraging update for the Broncos. They had been taking advantage of the preseason to help Lock find his footing. His status for the remaining two games does not appear to be in jeopardy.

Denver made quite the investment when they took Lock in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. As a result, he has already been pegged as the future successor to quarterback Joe Flacco.

Regardless, head coach Vic Fangio has indicated that they will look to take a patient approach with the rookie's development.

The last thing the Broncos need heading into the 2019 NFL season is to suffer any setbacks with Lock's progression.
