New Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has nothing but praises for his quarterback mentee, Drew Lock. The young QB was able to perform and show huge potential at the end of 2019 after spending the majority of his rookie year on the Broncos' IR list.

“It’s been awesome to work with him,” Shurmur told reporters on a Zoom call last week, per Broncos Wire). “Unfortunately, it’s been remote. I think he’s embraced what we’re planning to do on offense. There’s a rumor that he’s working with the players by himself. That’s a rumor that I heard. Also, along with that rumor, I heard it’s going well.”

Drew Lock injured his thumb in the preseason which limited him to just five games in 2019. The 24-year old was impressive in the games he played in though, completing 64.1 percent of his passes for 1,020 yards and seven touchdowns and just three interceptions.

Denver had a 4-1 end to their campaign with Lock leading the way. The Missouri native was able to tie the record of Broncos legend John Elway for the most franchise wins by a rookie QB, but he needed just five games while Elway needed ten.

“You really judge a quarterback by his ability to help the team win games. To be 4-1, that’s a really good start,” Shurmur added.

The new Broncos OC has had his fair share of QB talent in his time around the league, but having a young star in Lock with so much potential is nothing short of exciting for the 55-year old coach. It's definitely a thrilling time for Denver.
