The Denver Broncos traded for veteran quarterback Joe Flacco back before the 2019 season. However, they then selected Drew Lock in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Flacco ended up only appearing in eight games for the Broncos last season. And now according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Denver has waived the quarterback with a failed physical designation.

This means that the Broncos are ready to move forward with Lock as their starting quarterback. It also means that Flacco enters free agency with a number of teams looking to add at that position.

Could a team like the New England Patriots be interested? They won't have Tom Brady in 2020, and currently have Jarrett Stidham slotted as their starting quarterback.

Adding a veteran like Flacco could give them some time to find a replacement for the future, while still competing in the present.

However, that's all speculation. Flacco is a former Super Bowl MVP who has had some very good seasons in the past. Due to that, he should definitely be garnering some interest around the league.

In the end though, this news shouldn't really come as a surprise. Flacco has shown he can still be solid, but he hasn't been nearly as productive in recent years.

With that in mind, it wouldn't really make sense for the Broncos to keep him if they believe Lock is their starting quarterback moving forward.

This also gives Flacco time to sign with a new team before the Draft. That means there are more options open to him.

The future is set for Denver. For now though, the future is up in the air for Flacco. Will he sign with a team as a backup? Or will someone want to give him a chance as a starter?
