Andrew Luck's shocking decision to retire drew reactions from across the NFL, and Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio is the latest to weigh in. Speaking to the media on Monday. Fangio made it clear he respects Luck's choice, via Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic.

Fangio and Luck got to spend a lot of time together, since Fangio was Stanford's defensive coordinator for one season in 2010. That campaign was when Luck emerged as one of the top players in college football and the team went 12-1, so Fangio obviously has some fond memories of their time on the same team.

“Know him well. Obviously like everybody else (I was) surprised,” he said. “But Andrew is a guy of a lot of conviction, and if he didn't feel he could do it the right way and it's not going the way he wants, he'll react the way he did and he'll retire. But I can tell you this, he didn't do it in a harsh, quick way. I'm sure he gave it a lot of thought.”

The Broncos play the Indianapolis Colts later this year in Week 10, so Fangio surely isn't losing too much sleep over Luck's retirement. In his first year as a head coach, he'll now get a nice boost by getting to play Indianapolis with Jacoby Brissett at the helm instead of Luck.

Prior to being hired by Denver, Fangio served as the Bears' defensive coordinator. He's been tasked with turning around a Broncos team that has endured back-to-back losing seasons, and he has his work cut out for him.
