Over the last few weeks, it has become no secret that addressing the quarterback position is at the top of the docket for the Denver Broncos this offseason.

A possible target could be veteran quarterback AJ McCarron if he doesn't receive a new deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. According to Vic Lombardi of Altitude Sports Network, the Broncos could be in on the 27-year-old if he hits the open market.

Appearing on Wednesday’s PFT Live, Vic Lombardi of Altitude Sports Network said that the Broncos would be interested in McCarron, if McCarron becomes a free-and-clear free agent. (The NFL contends that McCarron’s rookie season on the non-football injury list keeps him from becoming an unrestricted free agent.)

Depending on how McCarron's situation with the Bengals shakes out at some point this week, he will receive plenty of interest on the open market from several other teams needing to upgrade at quarterback. He has yet to get a fair try at being the starter, but his performance in limited action has garnered attention.

Through his first three years in the league, McCarron has thrown for 920 yards while completing 64.7 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and two interceptions in 10 appearances. The bulk of that came in his rookie campaign where played in seven games with Andy Dalton injured. He also started in the Bengals’ 18-16 playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he completed 23-of-41 passes for 212 yards, one touchdown, and an interception.

Denver will likely focus on brining ing Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins first, but if that doesn't work out, the team may go full force in their pursuit of McCarron. The team has proven pieces on the offensive side of the ball, such as wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, and running back CJ Anderson.
