The Denver Broncos were scouring the market for an experienced linebacker and they've found their favorite choice. According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Broncos have finalized a deal with veteran linebacker Mark Barron.

Earlier this week on Wednesday, the Broncos reportedly hosted the former safety and current linebacker for a visit. Seeing that the team signed him on Sunday, his visit went well and they believe he can contribute immediately for the defense.

The signing of Barron comes shortly after rookie linebacker Justin Strnad suffered a wrist injury that would require season-ending surgery. Strnad was Denver's fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft back in April.

For Barron, he spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers as he entered his fifth season as a converted linebacker. In his lone season with the Steelers, Barron accounted for 82 tackles, three sacks, three pass breakups, and an interception. Despite signing a two-year, $12 million deal with Pittsburgh in 2019, Barron was released earlier this offseason.

The Broncos are confident in their inside linebacker duo of Todd Davis and Alexander Johnson entering the 2020 season. But the team was evidently looking to add depth at linebacker. The two linebackers behind Davis and Johnson were Josey Jewell and Joseph Jones before Barron was signed.

Following an injury-marred season on defense in 2019, the Broncos have reshaped their personnel in their second season under head coach Vic Fangio. Even though it is uncertain what Barron's role will be during the season, at the least, he gives them another veteran presence in the locker room.
