The Cleveland Browns are the Cleveland Browns because they are the Cleveland Browns. The team has been a picture of a football team that is on a constant decay over the past several years, thanks to a number of reasons, including a front office that has repeatedly proven its incompetence when it comes to choosing the right talents during the draft.

The jury is still out for most of the players the Browns drafted last year, but some Cleveland fans might be kicking their heads over the fact that the team had five – yes, five – chances to select running back Alvin Kamara in the 2017 NFL Draft, but they did not use any of those picks on the Tennessee product.

Here’s Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune rubbing it in on the Browns.

The Browns held the top pick in 2017, and spent it on taking stud defensive end Myles Garrett. Cleveland prioritized its defense a year ago, which is also why they selected versatile safety Jabrill Peppers as the 25th overall pick before topping their first-round haul with tight end David Njoku. In the second round, the Browns took quarterback DeShone Kizer then defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi was taken by the team in the third round.

Even after all those picks, Alvin Kamara was still left chilling on the draft board. Two picks after Ogunjobi, the Saints made their move and snagged Kamara, a decision that turned out to be one of the best the franchise has made in recent memory.

Instead of Kamara, the Browns had to content themselves of a backfield featuring Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson, while the Saints’ offense was being electrified by Kamara, who went on to win the 2017 Offensive Player of the Year award.

We’re not trying to twist the sword here, but the Browns also skipped Kareem Hunt five times. Hunt was selected 86th overall in the draft last year and finished his rookie season as the league’s leader in rushing yards.
