Cleveland Browns safety Damarious Randall is up for a new deal at the end of next season, and if he hits the open market, he seems likely to earn a pretty penny.

Of course, the Browns would love to keep him, but at this point, they have only had “very preliminary” extension talks with Randall, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cabot adds that while Cleveland would like to get a new deal done with Randall before the season, it would have to be a “blockbuster offer” and that the longer this goes, the more likely Randall will want to test the market next offseason.

If worse comes to worst, the Browns could always place a franchise tag on him in order to prevent him from changing addresses. In that instance, Randall would earn $12.735 million in 2020.

Randall is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 15 games and registered 85 tackles, four interceptions, a fumble recovery and nine passes defended.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Arizona State, was originally selected by the Green Bay Packers in the first round (30th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie year, totaling 58 tackles, three picks, 14 passes defended and a defensive touchdown. Then, the following season, Randall participated in 10 games, registering 37 tackles, three interceptions and nine passes defended.

The Pensacola, Fl. native spent one more year with the Packers in 2017, playing in 14 games and recording 47 tackles, four picks, a fumble recovery, nine passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

Randall was then traded to the Browns in March 2018.
