After the Cleveland Browns acquired Amari Cooper in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys, it all but spelled the end of Jarvis Landry's tenure with the team. Landry had been angling for a move away from Cleveland early in the offseason, and his wish was granted on Sunday, having been released by the team in a cost-cutting move, per Ari Meirov.

The decision signals the end of Landry's four-year tenure with the Browns, and the wideout will hit 2022 NFL free agency where he should have a handful of suitors.

Releasing Landry opens up $14.8 million in cap space for the team, so after landing Cooper from Dallas, the choice to part ways with Landry was made significantly less difficult. The wideout signed a five-year, $75 million deal with the Browns back in 2018 and was set to enter the final year of the contract in 2022. Rather than finish out his deal in Cleveland, however, the two sides have cut ties, and Landry will hit the open market.

Across four seasons with the Browns, Landry featured in 59 games, recording 288 catches, 3,560 receiving yards, and 15 touchdown grabs. He only played in 12 games last year while dealing with injury and logged a career-low 52 receptions, 570 yards, and 2 touchdowns.

One of the game's most reliable pass-catchers throughout his tenure with the Miami Dolphins, Landry struggled to find much success throughout his final two seasons in Cleveland. Still, the five-time Pro Bowler will be a hot commodity in free agency, with various contending teams in need of a talented slot receiver such as the 29-year-old.
