Earlier this week, the Cleveland Browns announced the decision to name rookie quarterback Deshone Kizer the starter this upcoming season.

It didn't take long for the Browns to decide the fate of veteran quarterback Brock Osweiler, as Mike Garafolo of NFL Network is reporting that the team has chosen to part ways with him on Friday afternoon.

There had been reports indicating that Cleveland was gauging the interest around the league about possibly moving Osweiler, but the lack of interest likely led to the team going this route instead. The organization sudden commitment to Kizer had essentially opened the door to the possibility that the 26-year-old would be on the move.

This comes just a few months after the Browns acquired Osweiler from the Houston Texans, along with their 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick. Houston received a 2017 four-round pick and saved $10 million in salary-cap space. He also had his entire $16 million in salary for the 2017 season paid by Cleveland.

With the start of the regular season around the corner, Osweiler could latch onto another team in a backup spot in the coming weeks. What this move does more than anything else is clear up any uncertainty about his future with the Browns.
