Since being released by the Philadelphia Eagles a few weeks ago after six seasons with the team, veteran linebacker Mychal Kendricks has remained afloat in the free agent market.

Kendricks has gone through visits with a few teams around the league such as the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, and Cleveland Browns. According to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, Kendricks has come to a decision on Sunday to ink a one-year deal to join the Browns.

The 27-year-old had visited with the Browns on June 1 that head coach Hue Jackson voiced that he was more than pleased to bring in another proven player to the mix to help reshape their defense. The team already possesses a relatively deep group of linebackers that already includes Jamie Collins, James Burgess, Christian Kirksey, Joe Schobert, and rookie Genard Avery.

The addition of Kendricks should further provide more stabilize that group in the front seven as he has proven to be one of the more dependable linebackers in the league in his first six seasons, During that stretch with the Eagles, he recorded 459 total tackles with 14.0 sacks, three interceptions, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He is also coming off a productive 2017 campaign where he recorded 77 total tackles with 2.0 sacks and six pass deflections.

Kendricks is the latest notable veteran addition this offseason that the Browns have made in an attempt to turn around the franchise what has become a rut of failure over the last several years. The franchise has hit the low point of losing all 16 games this past season while winning just one game in the last two years. All of these changes to the roster this offseason could finally lead to the franchise taking the right step forward to relevancy in the league to compete for their first playoff appearance since 2002.
