Since the Cleveland Browns acquired quarterback Tyrod Taylor earlier this offseason, he has had a firm grasp over the starting job despite the presence of rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield.

The further that the season draws closer, this question has become more prevalently asked to head coach Hue Jackson to which he has once again voiced that he's not changing his mind with placing Taylor over Mayfield in the depth chart as the starter, according to Peter King of NBC Sports.

“I’m not changing my mind,” Hue Jackson told me. “Tyrod’s starting. That’s no reflection on [rookie first-round pick Baker] Mayfield. He respects what I’m doing for him long-term. He may not like me for it now, but he’ll thank me later.

Taylor has endeared himself as the starter earning the praise of his teammates including Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry, who has begun to develop a strong on-the-field chemistry in the offseason and training camp. It appears that the Browns are going to give him a fair shot to prove that he can be the long-term answer under center to begin the year.

In terms of how long Cleveland will give him to show that he can lead the team to success is another question that poses the team. Taylor a proven quarterback that has had success in the league behind his dual-threat ability to impact the game with both his arm and legs that helped lead to Buffalo Bills to the playoffs last season for the first time in well over a decade.

With Jackson staying strong with his choice under center, it should give the 29-year-old the comfort to know that he will get the first crack to lead to the team in 2018 season. Simply put, this is in Taylor's hands to prove that he deserves to hold that spot.
