The Cleveland Browns are trying to right the ship after a winless season and one of their biggest weaknesses may have become one of their biggest strengths this year. The quarterback position has been upgraded with the additions of veteran Tyrod Taylor and rookie Baker Mayfield.

Although Mayfield was thought to be in the running to be the starter, head coach Hue Jackson has been determined to start the year with Taylor under center. However, it was uncertain whether Mayfield would get the nod to be his backup right away until Jackson confirmed as much this week, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

“I think that I already proved who that is,” Jackson said. “It's Baker (Mayfield). Baker is there. We haven't played a regular-season game yet, so we will see how that all unfolds. I feel good about the things that Baker went in and did in the game.”

Jackson seems content with his decision moving forward. It could be a costly one if Taylor struggles as Jackson may be on a short leash this season if the Browns don't show progress with an improved roster. Mayfield will be the second man on the depth chart and that won't change pending any injuries that may occur.

“I pretty much have my mind made up on where that is,” he said. “I haven't set it officially so you guys can write it. I like to tell my team first before I make those decisions on what we're doing. We will kind of go from there.”

On Sept. 9, the Browns will start the 2018 NFL season against the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers as the home team. Taylor will be under center and will have a tough challenge right out of the gate.
