Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt is now eligible to return after serving an eight-game suspension, and Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens says that Hunt will “definitely” have a role in the offense next week against the Buffalo Bills, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

The Browns have not yet formally added Hunt to their 53-man roster, but they did open up a spot by cutting safety Jermaine Whitehead on Monday.

Hunt was hit with a suspension for a domestic violence incident in February 2018, when he assaulted a woman outside of a Cleveland hotel.

The 24-year-old was with the Kansas City Chiefs at the time of the incident.

Hunt played in 11 games for the Chiefs last year, rushing for 824 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 4.6 yards per carry. In addition, he caught 26 passes for 378 yards and seven scores.

However, after video footage surfaced in November of Hunt's miscue, the Chiefs released him.

Hunt, who played his collegiate football at Toledo, was originally selected by Kansas City in the third round (86th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He had a spectacular rookie campaign, racking up 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground while hauling in 53 receptions for 455 yards and three scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

How much playing time Hunt will actually get with the Browns remains to be seen, as Nick Chubb is the clear-cut No. 1 back in Cleveland, but with the Browns sitting at 2-6 through nine weeks, they are probably willing to try anything at this point.
