The Carolina Panthers have long been linked with Baker Mayfield, but the Cleveland Browns have to wait for some more time to get clarity if they will be able to trade him to the team or not.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Mayfield remains an option for the Panthers as they looking for a starting quality QB.

However, some within the organization are still not sold on him and things could change depending on the QBs in the 2022 draft–with some falling on the board that could change how Carolina builds their roster.

Meanwhile, Joe Person of The Athletic highlighted that Panthers and Browns are still in talks for a potential Baker Mayfield trade, but for Carolina to pull the trigger on it, they would reportedly want Cleveland to eat a huge chunk of the QB's salary.

As reported earlier, the Panthers were unlikely to make a trade for Mayfield before the 2022 NFL Draft as they weigh their options. They did pick offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu with their sixth overall pick, but as Fowler noted, the QBs are falling in the draft which could provide the team with an opportunity to take a different route.

For now, Mayfield and the Browns have to play the waiting game and see if earlier discussions on a trade with the Panthers will come to fruition.
