The Cleveland Browns are working hard to try and trade for Deshaun Watson, which has left current quarterback Baker Mayfield very on edge. He expressed his displeasure on Tuesday with a long statement on social media discussing his uncertain future in Cleveland, which made many think Mayfield and the Browns could be heading for a divorce, regardless of the team landing Watson or not.

Well, according to Dianne Russini of ESPN, that's likely to happen:

Also, Chris Mortensen said on ESPN that the Browns want an “adult” at QB and plan to look at other options, even if Watson ends up elsewhere, including Jimmy Garoppolo:

Of course, this is all speculation. But the fact is Cleveland is making a point of talking to Watson because Mayfield was frankly disappointing in 2021. While the former Oklahoma standout did play through several injuries, including a partially torn labrum, he struggled. The signal-caller played brilliantly in his rookie season in 2018, but since then, he hasn't exactly taken the step forward the Browns were hoping for in order to get this team into the depths of the playoffs.

The Jimmy G part is also intriguing. He's coming off a fine season with the 49ers, taking them within one interception away from a Super Bowl appearance. Whether the Browns possibly pursue Garoppolo or go all-in for Deshaun Watson, it really looks like the Baker Mayfield era could be done in Cleveland.
