The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the sweepstakes for Tom Brady. Which means Jameis Winston has to find a new home in 2020. Despite the Buccaneers moving on from Winston, Chris Godwin went out of his way to defend his former quarterback.

“Obviously it’s a very challenging thing,” Godwin said on ESPN's NFL Live. “The nature of this business can be kinda hard. But I think that at the end of the day Jameis understands that everybody in the locker room has always had his back. The guys that he’s worked with closely, we still have a really good relationship and we all wish him the best.

Of course, with Brady landing in Tampa Bay, Winston is stuck looking for a job elsewhere in 2020. However, there are a limited amount of teams looking for a quarterback. That means it's going to be tough for Winston to land a starting gig next season.

This past season, Winston became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same season. While the 30 interceptions are less than ideal, the former No. 1 pick is still just 26 years old. He obviously has some room for growth.

Godwin, who caught a career-high 86 passes from Winston in 2019, still believes Winston will become a star in this league.

“I have a great deal of respect for Jameis and everything he does. There’s no doubt in my mind he’s going to land back on his feet and be a star in this league.”

Again, there aren't many teams left that are looking to add a starting quarterback. Despite Godwin's optimism, it could be a grueling offseason for Winston as he waits for another opportunity.
