Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston is coming off arguably the most polarizing statistical year in NFL history. Unfortunately, the negatives have seemingly managed to outweigh the positives for the most part.

Winston threw a whopping 30 interceptions in the 2019 NFL season. Perhaps even more concerning is the circumstances he was turning the ball over in, via Paul Hembekides:

Jameis Winston 2019 interceptions:

25 with clean pocket (most in NFL)
23 within 1 possession (most)
22 targeting WRs (most)
19 when trailing (most)
17 vs zone defenses (most)
13 vs man defenses (most)
13 vs blitz (most)
11 on 3rd down (most)
10 in 4th quarter (most)

Although many have tried to focus on the positives Winston produced during the 2019 campaign, the breakdown indicates that his mistakes tend to overshadow the highlights. The numbers show that not only was he operating from a clean pocket most of the time, he was making these errors during some of the most crucial moments of the game.

Of course, this must be faired with the fact that Winston also finished as one of the most productive passers in the NFL with a league-leading 5,109 yards and 33 touchdowns. Perhaps even more impressive is that he managed to play through a number of serious ailments after undergoing Lasik eye surgery and an operation to repair a torn meniscus this offseason.

It now remains to be seen whether or not the Bucs are willing to proceed with the gunslinger under center for the long haul. Despite his struggles, Winston's reputations as a bonafide gunslinger should draw plenty of interest around the league.
