Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones’ first season in the NFL just got worse. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the rookie tailback is going to miss multiple weeks due to a lower-body injury.

Jones missed the Bucs’ first three games of the season after an immensely disappointing preseason performance that resulted in him falling behind teammates Peyton Barber and Jacquizz Rodgers on the Bucs’ running back depth chart.

Jones was selected by Tampa Bay in the second round of this year’s draft with the vision of installing him as the Bucs’ future running back starter. But a series of poor games in the preseason and inability to produce meaningful numbers when given playing time have made him one of the most disappointing players this year. So far this season, Jones has produced just 42 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

Ronald Jones sustained the said injury during last Sunday’s 37-34 road loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in which he registered just one yard on three touches. He had two carries but turned in minus-3 yards.

For now, the Tampa Bay will utilize Barber as the starter, while Rodgers will act as the primary backup, beginning in this coming Sunday’s matchup with the Carolina Panthers on the road.
