The Milwaukee Bucks are in an 0-2 hole in the 2021 NBA Finals after losing the first two games on the road against the Phoenix Suns. However, while losses are losses, there's a silver lining the Bucks can take from Game 2: they were extremely unlucky and were still competitive until the end.

According to ShotQuality, Milwaukee wins Game 2 88% of the time based on the quality of possessions:

The Suns shot a ridiculous 20-of-40 from 3-point range, with a number of difficult makes. Devin Booker had been struggling from beyond the arc for a while in the playoffs but made 7-of-12 from 3-point land, and he seemed to have an answer for every single Bucks run.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee shot just 9-of-31 from 3-point range and also saw key players Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday toss up stinkers. The Bucks duo combined to shoot 12-of-37 from the field, with Holiday missing a bunch of shots around the basket that normally go down.

This spoiled an epic performance from Giannis Antetokounmpo, who dominated down low to the tune of 42 points on 15-of-22 shooting. In fact, the Bucks outscored the Suns by three points in Giannis' 40 minutes. It was those other eight minutes that doomed Milwaukee, with Antetokounmpo needing more help from his teammates.

There's reason to think some of this shot luck will even out in Game 3 on the Bucks' home court. Milwaukee has been much better at home in these playoffs, and Holiday is due for a good game after two duds in Phoenix. Middleton is also prone to break out at any moment.

The Bucks were able to turn the tables on the Brooklyn Nets in Round 2 after losing the first two games of the road in ugly fashion, and they're hoping they can do that again in the NBA Finals. With a bit more luck, perhaps they can, but the Suns are playing some great basketball right now.
