The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a disappointing 2017 campaign. Unfortunately, their 2018 NFL season is poised tog get off to another bad start with the looming suspension of quarterback Jameis Winston.

The penalty is due to Winston's failure to report an incident with an Uber driver he was involved in a couple years ago. According to ESPN's Jeff Cameron, Winston's camp is bracing for a potential three-game suspension:

“The Winston camp is prepared for the NFL to levy a suspension of some kind,” Cameron said. “The thought from the Winston camp is that would be a maximum of three games. I do not know at this time whether or not they plan to appeal, and I do not know that three games is an accurate number. I’ve been told that would seem to be the maximum number of games that the suspension could be. It’s also likely that it’s less than that and it’s one game.”

Of course, the number is just speculation at this point. However, it is indicative of the belief that even his camp has about his upcoming suspension. It remains to be seen whether or not Winston will decide to appeal the process. However, the league has shown that it has quite a far reach when it comes to these cases.

The update deals a blow to Tampa Bay who was looking to bounce back this year. Fortunately, the Bucs were sure to take the right precautions this offseason just in case Winston was unable to play. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick proved himself to be a viable replacement for the oft-injured Winston last season. As a result, both sides agreed to a one-year extension. Fitzpatrick threw for 1,103 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions in six appearances during the 2017 campaign.
