Wednesday brought plenty of action for the Chicago Bulls. In addition to DeMar DeRozan making history in a 125-118 victory heading into the All-Star break, Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle broke the news that Tristan Thompson will be joining the Bulls after a Pacers buyout.

In that victory over the Kings, DeRozan scored 38 points on 16-of-27 shooting to become the first player in NBA history to score at least 35 points on 50% or better shooting in seven straight games, breaking Wilt Chamberlain's old record. DeRozan is putting up nearly 39 points per game over 60% shooting during this stretch.

DeRozan admitted he “can't” really explain this heater, per NBC Sports Chicago's K.C. Johnson, and then offered this up on making history:

“Just to be in the record books along with staples in this basketball history is speechless,” DeRozan said. “As a kid, as a fan of the history of the game, being in the league as long I've been in the league, things like that continue to make me even more humble.”

DeRozan will now take aim at Michael Jordan's Bulls record of 10 straight games with 35 points or more, though he'll have to wait a week to make it eight straight games because of the All-Star break.

The Bulls star also addressed the Thompson signing, and he's excited to get some reinforcements:

Chicago's need for help in the frontcourt has been evident basically all season, so bringing in a veteran with a championship pedigree like Thompson makes sense. Even if Thompson doesn't work out, it's a low-risk move worth taking.

The Bulls are 38-21 on the season, which is good for first place in the Eastern Conference despite the frontcourt issues and a boatload of injuries in the backcourt. DeRozan's performance has him getting MVP hype.
