During his documentary which came out in April, Derrick Rose was shown crying when he found out his hometown Chicago Bulls were trading him to the New York Knicks in the summer of 2016.

Rose was drafted by the Bulls with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. He won the 2009 Rookie of the Year award and became the youngest MVP in NBA history in 2011.

However, Rose underwent three knee surgeries with the Bulls after winning that MVP award. Chicago traded Rose to the Knicks after the 2015-16 season, ending D-Rose's run with his hometown team.

In an interview with Dan Patrick on the Dan Patrick Show, Rose detailed the real reason he cried immediately after learning the Bulls traded him.

“That's my life. Chicago, everything was there,” Rose said. “The first thing I thought of was my family and my son. I knew that like I cherish those moments. Like Steph (Curry) wouldn't have been Steph if his dad didn't allow him to be on the court when he was shooting. I love the moments with my son when I'm actually warming up and he's on the court on the side going crazy or he's passing me the ball. Those the moments I cherish because I know that growing up, he's gonna cherish them also.”

Despite the trade, the city of Chicago never forgot about D-Rose. In fact, last season, he received MVP chants from the Bulls crowd when he visited the United Center as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Derrick Rose averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists with the Timberwolves last season. He signed with the Detroit Pistons this summer, allowing him to be closer to his son P.J., who lives in Chicago.
