New Chicago Bulls forward Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot may only boast a career average of 5.7 points per game in the NBA, but Bulls head coach Jim Boylen thinks highly of his ability to make things happen on offense:

“He’s got a scorer’s mentality to him, has good size,” said Boylen, according to K.C. Johnson of The Chicago Tribune. “He’s a wing I’m glad we can take a look at and see what he can do.”

Whether or not Luwawu-Cabarrot has a “scorer's mentality” is up for debate, but he is still young, and given the position that the Bulls are currently in, the franchise can certainly afford to take chances on cheap, young players.

The 23-year-old, who came over to the NBA from France, was originally selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round (24th pick overall) of the 2016 NBA Draft.

He played in 69 games during his rookie campaign, making 19 starts. During that time, Luwawu-Cabarrot averaged 6.4 points and 2.2 rebounds over 17.2 minutes per game while shooting 40.2 percent from the floor, 31.1 percent from three-point range and 85.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Last year, the Frenchman appeared in just 52 contests for the 76ers, registering 5.8 points and 1.4 boards across 15.5 minutes a night while making just 37.5 percent of his field-goal attempts, 33.5 percent of his long-distance tries and 79.3 percent of his foul shots.

He was then traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a three-team deal this past summer.

In 21 games with the Thunder, Luwawu-Cabarrot tallied 1.7 points through 5.9 minutes per game, connecting on 30.2 percent of his shots, 22.7 percent of his triples and 66.7 percent of his free throws.
