The Montreal Canadiens are going to get a shot in the arm. Former All-Star goalie Carey Price is set to make his long anticipated return to net against the New York Islanders on Friday night. Price last took the ice for the Canadiens on July 7th, 2021 during Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. He has missed the entire NHL season recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

Price was likely the biggest reason for Montreal's magical run during the 2020-2021 season, ultimately losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Finals. Montreal was trying to become the first team from Canada to win Lord Stanley's Cup since the Canadiens did it way back in 1993.

Even though Montreal's season is basically done, it's encouraging for the franchise to have their leader back in net.

“With what Carey has been through and the work that he has put in, it's fun to see where he is now and that he's ready to play. So we're really happy to have him. It wil bring a boost to the team and I'm looking forward to seeing this,” Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis said, as noted by NHL.com.

Price had practiced back in November, but endured a setback to his rehab in January.

The Canadiens goal tender is a former NHL Hart Trophy Award winner back in 2014-2015, given to the NHL's Most Valuable Player. Price has continued the legacy of some of the greatest goalies in NHL history playing in Montreal, with Ken Dryden, Patrick Roy and Jacques Plante all wearing the red and blue.
