Nicklas Backstrom has been witnessing the greatness of Alex Ovechkin for several years now, but what the Great 8 pulled off in the Washington Capitals' 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday must have given the center a little giddier, considering that it was a record-setting one.

Via Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic:

Backstrom on Ovi: “It’s amazing. He’s great. First of all, no one likes to score goals more than him. When he does these milestones – almost every night now – it’s just amazing to be part of it.”#Caps

In the win against the Red Wings, Ovechkin scored twice, and one of those goals will go down in history as the score that broke his tie with Hall of Famer Dave Andreychuk's total of 274 and gave him his 275th career goal on the man advantage — the most by anyone in the history of the NHL.

Ovechkin has been sensational this season, to say the least. Just like LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, the 36-year-old Ovechkin is doing an incredible job in defying Father Time. He is not just the Capitals’ top goal-scorer so far in the 2021-22 NHL campaign but is also still one of the most prolific goal-scorers in the league today. In fact, the Russian sniper is second in the NHL overall with 24 goals.
