The Washington Capitals have brought back a familiar face at the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline.

Per Chris Johnson, DC just acquired Marcus Johansson from the Seattle Kraken:

The 31-year-old was selected by the Capitals 24th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and went on to play seven seasons with the team before getting traded to the New Jersey Devils in 2017.

This season for the Kraken, Johansson has scored six goals and notched 17 assists in 51 games after joining Seattle last summer in the expansion draft. The Capitals meanwhile currently sit fourth place in the Metropolitan Division, with Alex Ovechkin once again putting up godly numbers. The Russian superstar has 40 goals and 36 assists in 62 games played.

Johansson's longest NHL tenure was in Washington, therefore it's a familiar place for him. Certainly a decent move for the Caps, who could use another scorer and playmaker. It's unclear what the return is for this deal, but the Capitals will undoubtedly be happy to reunite with Johansson, who they really never wanted to give up.

When DC traded him in 2017, it's because the franchise was cash-strapped. It will now be interesting to see if he can make a similar impact to his first stint with the organization and potentially help Washington make a Stanley Cup run this summer.
